Response
Scope of care
SERT provides pre-hospital emergency medical care at the Paramedic Association of Canada recognized Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) and Basic Life Support (BLS) level. We provide assessments and the provision of safe and prudent care for various emergencies including but not limited to acute and chronic illnesses, respiratory & circulatory emergencies, soft tissue trauma, musculoskeletal injuries, and crisis interventions. Our scope of practice is expanded with the addition of medical control protocols provided by our physician Medical Directors.
When SERT is alerted of patients in need by Westen Special Constable Service, the team on-call typically responds from our living quarters in Thames Hall in our truck or on-foot to the emergency in a few minutes
When patients require additional emergent care, MLEMS can be dispatched at the request of SERT. In non-emergent cases requiring additional care, SERT can provide patients with resources, education, and follow-up directions to places like urgent care and walk-in clinics such as Student Health Services. SERT also can directly refer patients experiencing mental health crises to various resources on campus or in the greater London community.
