No! SERT’s first aid courses are available to everyone. You do not need to be enrolled at Western to take a course, they are simply held on the Western campus. We invite members of the London community to take part in a course with us.
Once you have completed your registration you will receive an email providing you with location information. Generally all SERT courses are held in the basement of the UCC but please refer to your email for the exact room number. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact SERT. Yes, there is complimentary parking available on weekends at Western. We recommend participants park in the Springett lot which is close to the University Community Centre. More information can be found here. No matter the course you sign up for, you should bring: food/money, comfortable clothing (some skill practice will involve kneeling on the floor), and a pen.
If you are taking a recertification course, you must additionally bring a current Red Cross certification at the same level as the recertification course you are taking. Note, if you already hold a Red Cross recertification, a full course must be completed instead.
For example, if you are taking a Standard First Aid and CPR-C recertification course on August 16, 2013, you must bring a current, Red Cross Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification card with an expiry date of August 16, 2013 or later.
SERT is Canadian Red Cross training partner. That means that by taking a course with SERT, you will receive a Canadian Red Cross certification, recognized by the Workplace Safety & Insurance Board (WSIB) as an approved first aid trainer. All course materials will be provided on the day of certification or recertification course dates. If participants would like to keep a copy of the reading materials used, the Canadian Red Cross First Aid & CPR book can be purchased for an additional $10.
Yes! All the information that is taught in the course can be found on the free Red Cross App, available for iPhone and Android. It’s a great way to review your first aid knowledge on the go, and it makes this information easily accessible during an emergency. You can also download a pdf of an extended version of the in-class reading materials here .
A minimum of 8 people is required to set up a group rate course. Please note that SERT does not run public courses for Emergency First Aid & CPR-C, CPR-C only, or CPR-C recertifications, these must be set up through a private group contract.
